About Our School

Established in 1964, Whitman Elementary School proudly serves over 550 students in grades Kindergarten through Five. We are the home of Winston the Wildcat!

Nestled in the Whitman Square community, the school benefits from a strong neighborhood connection, with many students living within walking distance. Whitman is proud of its rich generational legacy, with many families sending their children, and sometimes grandchildren, to be part of the Whitman tradition.

At Whitman Elementary School, our mission is to inspire and empower every student to achieve academic excellence, foster social-emotional well-being, and become responsible and compassionate global citizens. Guided by a commitment to equity, inclusion, and lifelong learning, we create a nurturing and supportive environment where every child feels valued, respected, and capable of reaching their full potential.

Academic Achievement – Student achievement is evaluated through the use of multiple measures. These include benchmark assessment three times per year, performance assessments and  criterion-referenced tests. Student achievement on the state assessments exceeds the state and district averages. Improved student performance on the state assessments continues to be an annual goal.

Participation and Recognition – The staff at Whitman School encourages participation in a wide-range of activities. Students may also choose from a variety of co-curricular activities. These include after school clubs, vocal and instrumental music programs, and the Safety Patrol. All students display artwork in the annual school-wide Art Show.

Quality Staff – The professional staff at Whitman School continually refine and update their teaching skills through participation in professional development programs. They provide support to the students through differentiated instruction and small group instruction.

Parent and Community Involvement – Parent involvement is greatly encouraged through participation in classroom activities. The Parent Teacher Organization supports the educational program through sponsorship of assemblies, the Book Fair, and much more. The ongoing support and cooperation of the parents, community members, and the school staff creates a nurturing learning environment, which prepares the students to become successful, productive members of society.
